Phil Hartman

His nicknames were "Glue" and "The Sultan of Smarm".
 
He was born Phillip Edward Hartmann on 24 September 1948 in Brantford, Ontario, Canada.
 
Phil was an Actor, Comedian, Graphic Artist, Host, Narrator and Writer as well as doing voice over work of “Lionel Hunt” and “Troy McClure” from 1991 to 1998 on the hit animated “FOX” TV comedy “The Simpsons”.
 
Sometime shortly after his birth his Family moved to Connecticut where he spent most of his childhood and also spent some of it in California.
 
Phil graduated from California State University where his Major was in "Graphic Design”.
 
After he graduated he began working part-time doing graphic artist designing of record Album covers for “Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young” and also for the group “Poco”.
 
In 1975 he joined “The Groundlings” that were a troupe of travelling comedians from California where he first met Actors and Comedians “Jon Lovitz” and "Paul Rubens”.
 
Phil was the brainchild behind the development of Paul’s character of “Pee Wee Herman”.
 
His very first professional job was in 1979 when he did various voices for the weekly animated TV series "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo" until the show ended its’ run in 1983.
 
In 1980 he was the Narrator in the Comedy Documentary Film “Skateboard Madness”.
 
Also in 1980 he made his very first on screen appearance in the very short-lived Military Comedy series "The Six O’clock Follies".
 
Phil played a reporter on Rubens’ very first weekly TV series titled “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” in 1985.
 
He got his biggest break the following year in 1986 when he became a regular in the cast of the weekly TV Comedy series “Saturday Night Live” where he played many different characters up until 1994.
 
His best roles were as “Ted Davis” in “Blind Date”, as “Gary Young” in “Houseguest”, as “Major Colin Thorn” in “Sgt. Bilko”, as “Ted Maltin” in “Jingle All The Way” and as “Phil Fimple” in “Small Soldiers”.
 
Phil was married 3 different times and sadly his last wife Actress “Brynn Hartman” shot him while he was sleeping and then shot herself on Thursday, 28 May 1998 in their home at 5065 Encino Avenue in Encino, California.
