After receiving his master's degree in theater from Temple University in 1986, Tom moved on to New York City to focus on making a name for himself. After working various jobs, Tom landed his big break in the Oliver Stone classic Born on the Fourth of July (1989), but bigger roles would soon follow and his career would fly high throughout most of the 1990s.
