James Lafferty was born on July 25, 1985 in Hemet, California. He grew up with a natural talent for acting and basketball and embraced both of those talents. At Hemet High School he was MVP for his basketball team. By the age of 7, James began to act and landed his first television role in 1999 as a guest star on the FOX series Get Real. However, the series was canceled before the episode he guest starred in aired. Since then, James guest starred on Boston Public and First Monday, and had a recurring guest star role on Once and Again as Tad. James was cast in his first starring role in 2001 on the short lived series Emeril as James Lagasse. In 2003 James landed the role of Nathan Scott on the WB (now CW) hit series One Tree Hill in which he can currently be seen.
Aside from acting, James continues to play basketball and currently lives in the Wilmington, North Carolina area where One Tree Hill is filmed. Recently Lafferty financially backed a professional basketball team in Wilmington and remains a partner for the team. Once One Tree Hill has concluded filming, James plans on attending college.
