Ashley Olsen and her fraternal twin-sister were both born on Friday, June 13, 1986 in Sherman Oaks, California to David Olsen and Jarnette Fuller. Ashley was born two-minutes before her sister, and had a rounder face. Ashley has four other siblings- older brother Trent Olsen, younger sister Elizabeth "Lizzie" (who appeared in some of their straight-to-video movies), younger half-sister Taylor Olsen, and younger half-brother Jake Olsen.
At five months old, the twins were hired by
Full House producers to star in there new tv-show as Michelle Tanner. Due to child labor laws, the studio wanted twins in order to be able to film fast. Two months later, filming began on
Full House. The producers didn't want the public to know that the there was twins playing Michelle, so they credited her and her sister as Mary Kate Ashley Olsen, but that later changed when they were a few years older, and wanted to be known independently. During the production of
Full House, Ashley starred with her sister in several straight-to-video movies.
In 1993, the girls' manager, Robert Thorne decided to market their image, and formed the company Dualstar, named in honor of the girls. Ashley's parent decided to get divorced in 1995. The company would produce, and sell books, movies, and other merchandise targetted towards the tween ("to old for toys, to young for boys") demographic. As they became older, Ashley and her sister became more interested in clothing, and decided to start a clothing line under their
mary-kateandashley brand, which is sold in over 3,000 Wal-Mart's throughout the United States, and all over the world.
The girls starred in two sitcoms since their
Full House days: Two of a Kind, which was considered a disappointment, and was cancelled after it's first season, and also
So Little Time, which was ended after the two girls wanted to move on. They continued to make more straight-to-video movie realeases, but in 2004, Mary-Kate went into a rehabilitation center after it became evident that she was annorexic. Ashley supported her sister, and stood by her. In 2005, the girls made their first feature-length film that would air in theatres-
New York Minute. The movie was considered a box-office flop, and the girls have yet to star in any big role since then, however her sister had a role in 2006's
Factory Girl, but the scenes she had lines in were eventually cut.
After they turned 18, the girls were the center of the media, and the public, as they were now considered legal. All over, countdown clocks ticked down the minutes for their birthday. Also, at age 18, the two would now inherit their company Dualstar, which was worth an estimated billion dollars. After they graduated high school, they both went to college at New York University, however, Mary-Kate has stopped attending. Ashley wants to continue her career as a fashion designer, but still act in the future.
