Real Name: Dinah Laurel Lance
History: Black Canary is a spectacular martial arts artist with skills on par even with those of Batman and Wildcat, her mentor. She also has a superhuman sonic scream capable of knocking out her opponents and shattering solid structures. In an attempt to break Wildcat out of Roulette’s Meta-Brawl, she uses her charms to enlist Green Arrow’s help. Together they broke in Meta-Brawl where Black Canary tried to dissuade Wildcat from fighting. After failing, they tried a less subtle approach — Black Canary and Roulette made a deal which guaranteed that if Black Canary could beat Wildcat on the match, Roulette would let go of him for good, and if not, Canary wouldn’t bother Wildcat anymore. Worried with Black Canary, Green Arrow knocked her out with a knockout gas arrow. By the time she came to it was too late, Green Arrow and Wildcat were already fighting each other and Wildcat beat him to death — or so it seemed. This act was enough for making Wildcat quit. In the face of Green Arrow’s apparent death, Black Canary seemed touched by his bravery. After Green Arrow came through, she realized what had happened, and as they exit, she used her sonic scream to bring the arena down to pieces. Then, she convinces Wildcat to go through counseling with J’onn. After all this misadventure, she and Green Arrow seemed to have started developing a flame.
Black Canary and Green Arrow were later handed the assignment of guarding the mobster Mandragora, so as to ensure his security before a trial. At this point, they were already romantically involved. While on guard duty, the Huntress and the Question showed up and the four heroes fought each other. Black Canary took the Huntress down seconds before Mandragora fled the house he was being held in. Black Canary and Green Arrow followed the Huntress and the Question, who had set out to track Mandragora down. There, she fought him and even used her sonic scream on him, but his uncanny resistance wore her out. Luckily, she was saved by Green Arrow.
Black Canary was then put under mind-control to be the star attraction of Roulette’s new Meta-Brawl: Glamour Slam. She fought every night, and as a result, she was worn out during the day. The Huntress noticed this and followed her to the arena. She confronted Black Canary and accidentally broke her free of the mind-control, which was secretively being done via the Leaguer’s comlink. The two of them were imprisoned and then forced to fight Vixen and Shayera on the bout. After everyone snapped out of the mind-control, the four Leaguers were assaulted by Wonder Woman, who also was under the influence of the mind-control. Black Canary and the Huntress broke out of the arena and headed up to the control center, where Canary fought Sonar. She used her sonic scream on him and he counteracted with his sonic gun, but it was shattered to pieces. Sonar managed to stamp two discs on Black Canary’s forehead and canalized strong vibrations to her brain. She was promptly saved by the Huntress. In the end, Canary thanked the Huntress for saving her, and they settled their rivalry with a friendly ring fight.
Black Canary was later again seen fighting against Darkseid hordes alongside Green Arrow and Bizarro. |
