Luke Halpin was born in Astoria, Queens, New York City on April 4, 1947, the youngest of Eugene and Helen Halpin's three children. His career as a boy thespian began when a music teacher encouraged him to enter acting. His 1955 debut occurred in a
Studio One tv episode entitled "Miracle at Potter's Farm" starring Natalie Wood. By his mid-teens, Halpin had appeared in several TV shows and films. His big break came when he was chosen to co-star in the film
Flipper with Chuck Conners. The film's success generated a sequel,
Flipper's New Adventure, which led to Halpin starring in the highly successful TV series
Flipper. The show made Halpin a popular teen idol and he was frequently featured in teen magazines, including
Bravo, Teen Life, 16 Magazine, and
Tiger Beat. Following the cancellation of
Flipper in 1967, Halpin appeared in a few feature films, including
Island of the Lost (1967),
If It's Tuesday, This Must Be Belgium (1969), and
Shock Waves (1977). His youthful career however had lost its momentum and Halpin eventurally retired from acting. He became a pilot and marine technician for a film production company.
