Special Agent Fox William Mulder was born on October 13, 1961 in Chilmark, Massachusetts. His nickname given to him by his peers is Spooky.

Mulder immediately entered the F.B.I.'s Quantico Academy after graduating from Oxford with a B. A. in psychology. In 1988, he was assigned to the FBI's Violent Crimes Unit. In 1991, he persuaded his superiors to move him to the X-Files section.

Mulder has a photographic memory and the ability to process information and leap ahead to logical conclusions. Because of his interest in the paranormal, he often enjoys watching classic sci-fi movies. He has an intense fear of fire.

Mulder's father, William, was employed in the State Department branch of the federal government. Bill was shot to death by FBI Agent Alex Krycek in his home while Fox was present.

His sister was abducted from their home of 2790 Vine Street, Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, on November 27, 1973, while young Fox was playing Stratego. This abduction is what drives Mulder's wholehearted belief in the paranormal.
