Ernest Borgnine

Ernest Borgnine was one of the most widely recognized and respected character actor of all time. With a career spanning over six decades, Borgnine appeared on both stage, film and television. In 1955, Borgnine took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Marty, was nominated for several Emmys, and in 2011, took home a lifetime achievement award from the Screen Actors Guild.

Raised by Italian immigrants in Connecticut, Borgnine didn't show any interest in acting until after he served for the U.S. Navy in World War II, after his mother suggested he had the right personality for the stage. After he moved to Hollywood in 1951, he received his big break in the hit From Here to Eternity, which won 8 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The rest was history.

Ernest Borgnine Quotes
Ernest Borgnine: The trick is not to become somebody else. You become somebody else when you're in front of a camera or when you're on stage. There are some people who carry it all the time. That, to me, is not acting. What you've gotta do is find out what the writer wrote about and put it into your mind. This is acting. Not going out and researching what the writer has already written. This is crazy!
