He publicly advocated marijuana as a better alternative to alcohol.

His wife was the one who suggested he try out for the immortal role of J.R. Ewing on "Dallas."

Directed the campy sci-fi comedy "Beware! The Blob!" It originally failed at the box office, but once Hagman became enormously successful with "Dallas" and his J.R. character was shot it was re-released with the promotional tagline: "The film that J.R. Ewing Shot!"

Was a longtime friend of the late Carroll O'Connor, and spoke at O'Connor's funeral on 26 June 2001. O'Connor gave Hagman's daughter, Heidi Hagman, a part in "Archie Bunker's Place" (1979) in the early 1980s.

He had a ring made from the gallstones that were removed during his liver transplant.

He enjoyed skiing, backpacking, fishing, sailing and touring in his personally designed custom motorhome.

Upon his death he was cremated, his ashes were scattered at the Southfork Ranch in Parker, Texas.

He served in the United States Air Force.

He received six Soap Opera Digest Awards, a Lone Star Film & Television Award, a Golden Camera award, a Bambi award and a TV Land Award--all for the role of the legendary J.R. Ewing on "Dallas."

Holds the record for the greatest number of consecutive appearances by a leading actor in an hour-long prime time dramatic series, for his 357 appearances on "Dallas" (1978).
