Former Ohio politico turned sleazy talk show host. When he began his show in 1991, Springer was sort of a low rent Phil Donahue who discussed mostly serious issues. Unfortunately, his ratings were dismal so a few years later he turned to doing mostly low rent schlock. Ratings then went through the roof and his show has been going strong ever since. Jerry Springer may never win an Emmy but he has become a cultural icon, for better or for worse.
