Cassidy "Beaver" Casablancas is the younger brother of Dick, and proves to be everything Dick's not---intellegent, cunning, thoughtful, and devious.
Cassidy had a large part to play in the events affecting Neptune's social scene, especially where Veronica Mars was concerned. Cassidy managed to use Veronica to shed light on his father's real estate scheme and force him to flee the country. Later, he used his golddigging stepmother to front a company he created in order to hedge his bets against the incorporation of Neptune, which netted him nearly eight million in real estate profits. He was also instrumental in outing Woody Goodman's secret concerning his Little League "coaching."
Though he dated Mac, who was crazy about him, Cassidy always felt uncomfortable when it came to being close to her. It was later discovered that Cassidy had been one of Goodman's victims, and had likely questioned his sexuality since that time. One night---the night of Shelly Pomeroy's party---Cassidy used a drugged Veronica in order to lose his virginity so that he could, in Veronica's words, "feel like a real man."
Cassidy's life, however, came to a sudden end once Veronica discovered that he was the one behind the mysterious bus crash that killed eight people. After revealing his part in her rape, he blew up his own rapist, Goodman, in a plane flying over Neptune---a plane Veronica erronously believed also held Keith. He then committed suicide by taking a swan dive from the roof of the Neptune Grand.
His death has left its own aftereffects---Mac has been seeing a shrink to deal with her issues regarding her time with Cassidy, and though Dick tries to shrug off the whole affair, has his own demons with his brother's actions. |
