Genre(s): New Wave, Pop, Rock
Originating out of Birmingham, England in 1978,
Duran Duran became an integral part of the New wave music movement of the 1980's.
Their slick, professionally directed videos were the first to contain story lines and filmed on professional 35mm film as opposed to the less expensive video tape of the day. This helped to skyrocket their success along with the new music video innovator MTV.
Although often out of favor to the music critics,
Duran Duran appealed to the masses. From their first album,
Duran Duran to their latest
Astronaut in 2004,
Duran Duran has proven that they have endurance. Selling over 70 million records and being locked in as an Eighties band, Duran Duran has continuously recorded albums and are scheduled for a new release in mid 2006.
