He studied at the Sorbonne during his junior year of college and at Fordham University in New York fro the remaining years.
Served in the U. S. Army, and he went AWOL every weekend because he was dating the woman that he ultimately married, Arlene.
His most famous role is as Hawkeye Pierce on the famous TV show M*A*S*H
