Jason's first career was as a pro skateboarder in the late 1980s and early 1990s after he dropped out of High School. He was co-founder of Stereo skateboards, a company which has been revived as of 2004 after having been defunct for several years. He was one of the first skateboarders to receive a pro-model shoe, produced by Airwalk.
Jason fell into acting after he appeared in a music video for Sonic Youth's 1992 music video for 100% and a small part in Allison Anders' 1993 film Mi Vida Loca. His first major movie role was in Kevin Smith's Mallrats (1995). He found success in other films, such as Kissing a Fool (1998), Dogma (1999), Almost Famous (2000), Vanilla Sky (2001), Dreamcatcher (2003), and The Incredibles (2004). Currently, he's trying out TV with a starring role in NBC's My Name Is Earl.
