Japanese Name: 綾波レイ Ayanami Rei
Designation: The First Child
Her last name literally meaning "Design of Waves", Rei Ayanami is the taciturn pilot of the prototype Eva Unit-00. Also born after Second Impact, her origins are unknown. An accident before Shinji's arrival to NERV almost took her life. It is the image of her in great pain which causes Shinji to agree to become the pilot of Eva Unit-01. Dedicated completely to her job, Rei lives alone in a run-down apartment complex. What little is known about her is that Shinji's father, Gendou, and she share a special bond which was forged not long before Shinji arrived in Neo Tōkyō 3. |

voiced Mimiru in .hack//SIGN (US)
Mimiru, a heavy sword character, is the first to meet Tsukasa. Originally a solo character, Mimiru eventually finds herself hanging around Bear, Tsukasa, and on occasions BT, or Sora.
Mimiru isn’t known for thinking things through. This mostly is attributed to the fact that she’s a 15 year old girl. Mimiru is also known to be rash, and easily angered. BT often points out to her how childish she is. However, what Mimiru lacks in discipline, she more than makes up for in passion, trust in her friends, and skills with a sword.
Throughout most of the series, Mimiru plays mediator for Tsukasa with Bear and BT, and vice versa. Until Subaru and Tsukasa meet towards the middle/end of the series, Mimiru is the only person that Tsukasa really trusts.
