Judi is unique in having sustained a television career that, both in breadth and depth, more than matches her work for the stage. The three roles for which she received, in the same year, a clutch of Best Actress and Best Light Entertainment Performance awards--a cancer ward sister in the single drama Going Gently, Ranyevskya in The Cherry Orchard and the gauche but capable Laura in the situation comedy series A Fine Romance--epitomize the versatility of this distinctive and popular performer and the range of work with which she has been associated across a career spanning four decades and some thirty parts. She was also made a Dame Commander of the British Empire in 1988.
After many roles in film and television, Judi still prefers her first love: the stage. She can still be seen performing in many plays throughout London.
