Ingrid Hafner was born in London in the late 1930s (she was reported to be 23 at the time of The Avengers in 1961). Her first feature film was
Bluebeard's Ten Honeymoons, in 1960. SHe also appeared in a regular television role opposite Ian Hendry in
Police Surgeon, for ABC TV. The show morphed into
The Avengers--once more supporting Hendry as his character's receptionist, Carol Wilson. She would continue to appear in the series until Hendry was released in a restructure of the series.

Hafner went on to appear in several more feature films, including The Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders (1965) and Philby, Burgess and MacLean: Spy Scandal of the Century (1977). She also made many stage appearances, including a 1959 production of Cyrano de Bergerac at The Old Vic, Bristol, in a cast that included Peter Wyngarde and a very young Patrick Stewart.
In the 1980s, Ingrid appeared as a guest performer in the well-regarded ITV series, Robin of Sherwood, an update of the Robin Hood legend, playing Mary in the feature length episode, The Swords of Wayland. Just before her death, she appeared in Take the High Road, a long-running soap-opera made by Border Television, set in Scotland. She also made many appearances on radio in Britain, notably in the BBC's 1989 edition of Jane Austen's Emma, in which she was cast as Mrs. Weston.
Ingrid Hafner died in England on 20 May 1994 of MND (Motor Neuron Disease).
