played Hunter No. 2 [Episodes 7-11] in Callan
Hunter Number Two was a somewhat naive ex-army man, played by Michael Goodliffe. He didn't last very long, being the target of the KGB who murdered him and other members of the Section in the episode Let's Kill Everybody.
Michael Goodliffe's approach to the role was in marked contrast to Ronald Radd's. The opening scene of the first episode to be recorded, The Most Promising Girl Of Her Year, featured a virus being tested on a laboratory rat, supposedly killing the creature within five seconds. To make this look realistic the animal was given gas, but unfortunately this killed the creature instead of merely making it unconscous as was intended. This greatly distressed Goodliffe who was furious that an animal should have been killed for the sake of a television program. He departed the series after only five episodes and was replaced by Derek Bond who played Hunter for the remainder of the season.
