Born January 4, 1964 in Queens, New York, Tom attended St. Margret's grammar school, and Archbishop Molloy High School.
While he was in high school, Tom was a member of the school's track team, where he held the school record in the pole vault for 20 years, until it was broken in 2002. After he graduated, Tom spent 3 years at the State University of New York at Binghamton where he studied History, before he left to become a New York City Firefighter, following in his father's footsteps.
In 2001, Tom voiced how proud he was at how fast his department responded during the 9/11 attacks. Afterwards, he said that what he learned through that ordeal was to not sweat the small stuff, love your family, and to live life to the fullest. Right now, he's working on finishing his degree at Queen's College and at the City University of New York, where when finished, Tom will have his Bachelor of Arts degree in History. Since his retirement from firefighting, Tom is planning to start a career as a motivational speaker. After he appeared on Survivor: Palau, Tom made it into TV Guide's "sexiest man" list.
Tom currently lives in Sayville, New York with his wife, 3 children, and one dog.

Tom became the sole survivor on Surivior: Palau
On August 10, 2005, Tom appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful. He portrayed a firefighter talking about pool safety.
At the age of 41, Tom became the oldest sole survivor in the 10 seasons of the show.
