Kelly Ann Hu was born in Honolulu Hawaii on February 13, 1968 to Herbert (a salesman) and Juanita. Kelly started as a model, specifically working the beauty pageant circuit (she is a former Miss Teen USA 1985), and eventually worked as a model in Japan and Italy (her cousin was a model in Japan). Interested in acting, she returned to the US and landed an 1987 episode on
Growing Pains. Her first movie was 1989's eighth Jason the 13th movie (
Jason Takes Manhattan. While acting, Kelly continued to model, and is the 1993 Miss Hawaii, and was a finalist at the 1993 Miss USA pageant.
The late nineties saw a Kelly star in two cop series, and one soap. First was the soap. Kelly starred as Rae Chang in 1997 on the soap
Sunset Beach before starring on
Nash Bridges as Inspector Michelle Chan. Immediately thereafter, Kelly Hu entered the early 2000s as the character Chen Pei Pei (Grace Chen) on the Sammo Hung martial arts/police series
Martial Law. Continuing the crime-type theme, Kelly guest-starred in five episodes of ABCs
Threat Matrix as Agent Mia Chen in 2004.
Besides that Jason the 13th film, Kelly has appeared in numerous films, including
The Scorpion King and
X2 (X-Men 2).
