Viginia Gregg started her career in radio with regular appearances on shows like Dragnet and The Lone Ranger. She started her film career in 1946 with an uncredited role in Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious which starred Cary Grant, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains. She went on to appear in films like All the Fine Young Cannibals and I'll Cry Tomorrow.

In the 1950s, she moved to television roles and appeared several times on the television version of Dragnet. In addition, she appeared on a wide range of shows like Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Make Room for Daddy, The Twilight Zone and Dynasty. In all, she had over 170 television and film credits in her career.

She also did voice work and was the voice of Mother in the Psycho movies (1960, 1983 and 1986).
