Jimmy Nail Quotes |
| |
(On his new show, Parents of the Band)
Jimmy: It’s lovely to be returning to BBC One with a brand new show. Half-hour comedy is something I’ve not done before; as such it offers a new challenge. We have a wonderful team – some of them new acquaintances, some old friends – and we’ll be working hard to ensure the end product is special. | Jimmy: Sammy Johnson epitomised everything good about Geordies. He was blessed with a mix of humour, loyalty, kindness and fun.
| (In an interview on the South Bank Show in the late 1980s about the character Oz in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet)
Jimmy: I won't be playing Oz again as nobody would think he was funny these days. | (Jimmy on acting)
Jimmy: I find it very hard
to play a part, then take it off like a cheap suit and become Mr Normal, Mr Nice Guy. I haven't got the kind of discipline where I can turn my emotion inside out and then just switch off. It affects me fairly profoundly and I don't like putting myself through that kind of mincer every day. | (Jimmy on his early life)
Jimmy: I was racing through life, utterly confused and angry. I don't know if I was out of control; it was more like I felt frustrated with myself and everything I saw happening around me. I couldn't make sense of things. But then I began the process of civilizing myself and trying to become a decent human being. I'm still working on it. | (His first words to Auf Wiedersehen Pet director)
Jimmy: Get your skates on because my car is parked on a double-yellow and I don't want to be here anyway. | (On his life after Oz)
Jimmy: I went from being totally unknown to getting stopped everytime I went out. I always wanted to be successful, but I have never wanted to become a celebrity. I never, ever, craved that. Even now I can't stand being recognized in the street. I just hate it when strangers come up and try to talk to me. I'm pathologically shy. | (After his trip to Sierra Leone in 2005, with Kevin Whately)
Jimmy: It was a real eye-opener for me, being in at the sharp end, seeing where the money raised on Red Nose Day actually goes. | (On his life)
Jimmy: I've gradually grown more comfortable with who I am and what I am. The older I've got, the easier I've found it to accept myself. I think I've finally learnt not to beat myself up so much. | (On his relationship with wife Miriam)
Jimmy: Talk about a lucky break. And we're still together. In the entertainment business, the personal casualties are colossal, Unusual? It's bloody miraculous, man. But, you know, we have two wonderful boys now. |
