Irene Dailey was perhaps best known for her roles for the stage and the soap operas, where she usually played mothers. Curiously she never married nor have children of her own. She won the daytime Emmy in 1973 for her portrayal of a matriarch in the soap opera “Another World.” Onstage Miss Dailey gained fame with her role of Nettie Cleary in the drama "The Subject was Roses." Her roles for TV include appearances in "Ben Casey," “Dr. Kildare,” “The Twilight Zone” and “The Defenders,” and an extended role in the daytime drama “The Edge of Night.” As for films Miss Dailey starred in “No Way to Treat a Lady,” “Five Easy Pieces” and “The Amityville Horror.”
She dabbled into vaudeville since her early teens and appeared in many plays in the US and England. She died from colon cancer.
