Hugh O'Gorman was born on June 11th, 1965, the second son of Marion Judith "Mimi" Holaves O'Gorman and Hubert Joseph "Bob" O'Gorman. Mimi was a retired opera and Broadway (1946's "Showboat") singer at the time of Hugh's birth, while Bob was a professor of Sociology at Hunter College, Columbia University and the New York School of Psychiatry. His brother Mark was a 16 year-old.
Hugh acted in the drama departments at both the Independent Day School and the Xavier High School, while also excelling on the soccer field as an All-State/All-New England player. Hugh then attended Cornell University where he majored in Psychology and minored in French. After graduating from Cornell University, Hugh went on to study acting at the University of Washington.
