Wilmer Anton Valderrama was born on January 30, 1980 in Miami, Florida. His parents, Balvino and Sobeida Valderrama, were immigrants from Venezuela. He has two sisters, Marilyn and Stephanie, and a brother, Christian. His parents moved the family back to Venezuela when he was only three years old, so he grew up speaking Spanish. They moved back to the United States when Valderrama was fourteen, as he was starting high school.
When he first came back to the U.S., he didn’t speak English, so he had to learn it in school and through watching television shows. He took drama classes, which were another great way to practice English, and the experiences there led him to being cast in a Spanish-language Pacific Bell commercial. Valderrama soon hired an agent and was quickly cast in a CBS miniseries called
Four Corners, and in the Disney Channel’s
Omba Makomba. Not long after, he earned the role of Fez on
That '70s Show, while he was still a junior in high school. He graduated from William Howard Taft High School in 1999.
Valderrama’s film debut was a role in the movie,
Summer Catch (2001). He played Keoki in the film,
Party Monster (2003), and voiced the character Rodrigo, in
Clifford's Really Big Movie (2004). Valderama hosts the trash-talking show,
Yo Momma, which he also created and produces.
Valderrama was named one of
People Magazine's "Top 50 Bachelors" in 2002, though he has dated many famous beauties, including
Mandy Moore and
Lindsay Lohan. He co-owns several restaurants, and currently holds the record for being Punk'd the most times by his good friend
Ashton Kutcher.
