Kanye West is a rapper/ producer from Chicago, Illinois. After attending Columbia College, a local art school in Chicago, and then Chicago State University, West dropped out and began working on his music career. He started producing songs for artists like Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, John Legend, and Janet Jackson, making West a big name in hip hop/ R&B production. In October, 2002, Kanye got in a car crash, where he fractured his jaw in three places. This inspired him to write his hit single "Through the Wire", where he recorded the song with his mouth wired. "Through the Wire" became a hit and was on West's first album, "The College Dropout". Another single from the album, "Jesus Walks" also became a huge success. West released his second album, "Late Registration" on August 30, 2005. The album has been very successful, and one of the singles, "Gold Digger" was number one on the billboard charts for more than ten weeks. West was nominated for eight Grammys for "Late Registration". He won three including best rap album.
