At the age of 18, Annie matriculated into Columbia Univeristy, where she majored in English and Psychology. After finished at Columbia, she moved on to the University of Pennsylvania to work on her Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology.
She then left graduate school one month before defending her Ph.D. work to get married to Ben Duke. After they were married, the couple moved to Billings, Montana, where Annie got her start playing poker in local card rooms to help pay the mortgage, and the rest, is history. In 1994, at the suggestion of her brother professional poker player Howard Lederer, she played in her first World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. In the course of play at the tournament, Annie knocked out her brother to place 13th. After that, she and her husband moved to Las Vegas in order for Annie to become a professional poker player. However, what is most likely Annie's biggest feat came in 2004, when she won her first World Series of Poker bracelet , defeating 230 other players to win the Omaha Hi/Lo Split tournament. She then went on to defeat 8 other players, one of which was her brother, in the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions, in which she won $2 million dollars in the winner take all event.
It is with all of this success, Annie will be continuing to take the poker world by storm in many years to come.
