Looking for a more international career, he moved to the U.S., where he was cast in the movies, The Mambo Kings (1992), and Philadelphia (1993). These were soon followed up with other well-known film hits, such as Desperado (1995), The Mask of Zorro (1998) and Spy Kids (2001). He has also done voice-over work, playing the Puss-in-Boots in the Shrek films, and the computer-animated bee in television commercials for Nasonex.
Banderas had a first wife named Ana Leza, but after they divorced he married actress Melanie Griffith in 1996. The couple has one daughter, named Stella.
