Apolo Anton Ohno was born on May 22, 1982 in Seattle, Washington to Jerrie Lee and Yuki Ohno. His parents marriage ended when he was a baby, and Jerrie took care of him. His father urged Apolo into skating, which he found he was good at. He became the youngest U.S champion ever at 14 years old.
In the 1998 Winter Olympics, Apolo came last in the trials, but four years later, he won silver in the 1000 meter race and gold in the 1500 meter race.
