Former First Lady of the United States from 1993-2001. Served in the United States Senate as a Democrat from New York since 2001. Failed in her bid to become the first female presidential nominee in 2008 when she lost the Democratic nomination to freshman Illinois Senator Barack Obama. On August 23, 2008, she was passed over by Obama for the Democratic vice-presidential nomination in favor of Delaware Senator Joe Biden but was later named Secretary of State after Obama's election to the presidency in November of 2008.
