General Information (R.E.M.) |
| |
| Mostly Credited As: | R.E.M. |
| Date Of Birth: | 1980 |
| Country Of Birth: | USA |
| Birth Place: | Athens, Georgia |
On April 6, 1980, Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills, and Michael Stipe performed their first-ever live concert as the Twisted Kites for a friend's birthday party. Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe would later become known as R.E.M. The four southern gentlemen hail from Athens, Georgia and first met in the late '70s. Peter Buck is the band's guitarist, Mike Mills is the bassist, and Michael Stipe is the band's eccentric frontman / lead singer. (Bill Berry, who was the original drummer, retired from the band in 1997 and is now a farmer, but he still sometimes performs with them.) R.E.M. are still considered a huge band 25 years after their formation.

R.E.M. Quotes |
| |
Michael Stipe: Take what you see on TV, mix in a guy who's turned 30 and still doesn't have a job, throw in some Uncle Remus stories and add a few flies in amber and you have America. |
