Natalie Portman is the only child of Avner, a doctor, and Shelley, an artist. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, she and her family moved into the United States when she was only three. Settling in Syosset, New York, she started to pursue her acting career when she was only eleven. Her film debut was Léon in 1994. Natalie attend and graduated with honors from Syosset High School in June 1999. While she concentrated mostly on her academics, she did make several films during her early high school years, such as Heat (1996), Everyone Says I Love You (1996), Beautiful Girl (1996) and Mars Attack (1996). Because of her outstanding academic achievement, Natalie enrolled into Harvard University. She continues to pursue her acting career, while majoring in psychology. It wasn’t until 1999 when she received world-wide fame in playing Queen “Padme” Amidala in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .
