Anthony Hopkins has been so long acknowledged as one of the great actors, we tend to take his excellence and intelligence for granted. His name alone affords respectability to movies that might otherwise not earn it, and directors have often taken advantage of his gravitas. Just look at "Alexander" and "Meet Joe Black."
Removing this burden is also an obvious relief for Hopkins; he's free to give one of his most relaxed, least-mannered performances in years as Burt Munro, who is neither an American Indian nor from India. He's a New Zealander, who in the feat that inspired this film, was determined to set a land speed record riding the classic motorcycle of the title in 1967.
