Green Day is a California based pop-punk band made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool. They have been a major influence on many other rock bands like Blink-182 and My Chemical Romance. Their first album was 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours, consisting of songs from two previous EPs. In Janurary 1992, they relased their second album, Kerplunk. The band went on a worldwide tour soon after, and started recording new material. They got some mainstream success with 1993's Dookie. Green Day's videos were now being played on MTV, and they appeared at Woodstock 1994. Following the platinum Dookie, Green Day released Insomniac, which was darker and heavier. The album didn't do as well as Dookie, but was still reviewed well. Their next album, nimrod. showed the band;s musical progress, and produced the band's biggest hit, "Good Riddance." After nimrod., Green Day took a two year brake, but came back in 2000 with Warning. The album had a more pop oriented sound than their other albums, and didn't do as well. Trying to stay fresh after Warning, Green Day came out with American Idiot in 2004. The album was a huge success, containing hits like "American Idiot," "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," "Wake Me Up When September Ends" and "Holiday." The band is currently working on a new album, and it is expected to be released in 2008.
