Edward James Norton Jr. is one of three children of Edward, an attorney, and Robin Norton, former foundation executive and teacher. He was interested in acting ever since he was 5. Ed attended Yale University and majored in history. Throughout his life, he attend theater schools and eventually found work in the theaters, when he was a member of the Signature players in New York. Ed made his film debut in Primal Fear (1996) when he won the auditions from 2000 other hopefuls. Before the film was even released, his test screenings impressed Hollywood and was offered a supporting role in Woody Allen's Everyone Says I Love You (1996) and The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996). His work in Primal Fear already earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting role, including an Oscar nomination. His second Oscar nomination came in American History X (1998), when he gained 30 pounds of muscle the violent white supremacist role. Ed was also the narrator in the critically acclaimed Fight Club (1999). He made his directorial debut in 2000 when he directed Keeping the Faith, which also starred Ed himself as Father Brian Finn. Other notable film includes Red Dragon (2002), where he co-stared with Anthony Hopkins, and the box office hit, The Italian Job (2003).
