Chelsea Clinton Joins NBC News

Chelsea Clinton will become a full-time correspondent for NBC News, according to The New York Times.

The former first daughter will begin her duties immediately and is expected to work on the "Making a Difference" segment of NBC Nightly News which spotlights people who volunteer to improve the lives of others in their community.

"I hope telling stories through 'Making a Difference' — as in my academic work and nonprofit work — will help me to live my grandmother's adage of 'Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you,'" Clinton said in a statement to the Times.

Steve Capus, president of NBC News, told the Times: "It's not about Chelsea Clinton saying, 'Here I am; I want to be a TV star.' [She] made it very clear that this is not going to be a surface-deep relationship. She wants to be in the field for the shoot and in the edit room for the edit." He added: " It will be full time for the near-term future. But I hope it's the beginning of a nice, long-term relationship."

When Bill Clinton was elected president, then first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton asked the media to keep Chelsea out of the public eye. As a young adult, Chelsea continued to avoid public attention while attending college and entering the business world. But while her mother was running for president, she made hundreds of public appearances.

Clinton joins political offspring Jenna Bush Hager and Meghan McCain who also work for NBC Universal.
