Claire is the nice young Aussie girl who was 8 months pregnant when Flight 815 went down. She intended to give the baby up for adoption, but the plane crash prevented the adoption from taking place.

She was kidnapped by nasty Ethan, and later learned that it was Rousseau's daughter Alex that helped her to escape. She gave birth to her baby boy, Aaron, and he was kidnapped by Danielle, though Sayid and Charlie brought him back.

In the beginning, Claire had a trusting relationship with Charlie, but during season two this friendship has become a lot more vague as Charlie has drifted towards drugs and hallucinations, which have, amongst other things, led him to abduct Claire's baby. As time has progressed, however, she begins once again to trust Charlie, going so far as to finally kiss him.
