Weird Al Yankovic
| |
General Information (Weird Al Yankovic) |
| |
| Mostly Credited As: | Weird Al Yankovic |
| Birth Name: | Alfred Matthew Yankovic |
| Date Of Birth: | October 23, 1959 |
| Country Of Birth: | USA |
| Birth Place: | Downey, California |
"Weird Al" is a comedian, but not a typical stand-up comedian. He's a "musical comedian" who creates songs with laugh-out-loud lyrics. Although Yankovic is perhaps most well-known for his parodies of famous songs, a common misconception is that he only writes parodies. However, he has written an equal, if not larger, amount of original songs as well. Some of these are purely original in music and lyrics, while others mimic the style of a certain artist or genre.
Weird Al is also famous for playing the accordion, an instrument that he has been playing since the age of seven. Besides this unusual instrument, his physical appearance is also somewhat of a trademark. Al generally dons loud clothing (like Hawaiian shirts), Vans shoes, and naturally curly hair. He also wore large glasses before getting LASIK eye surgery in 1998, about the same time he decided to get rid of his facial hair.

Coolio, even though he received royalties, was outraged by Al's parody of "Gangsta's Paradise." | Al has done a parody of "Lose Yourself" and even dressed up as Eminem. Surprisingly, they have an uncanny resemblance. | In 2004, Al's parents passed away due to carbon monoxide poisoning. | Al is featured in the Genesis music video for "I Can't Dance." | Al skipped second grade at school due to his intelligence. | Al claims to have been a straight-A student throughout school. | After Al did a parody of Nirvana's song "Smells Like Teen Spirit," Kurt Cobain felt that they (the band) had "made it." According to the band members, they found the music video very funny and laughed when they saw it. |
