Freema was born in Woodberry Down, London, She is known most known for her roles as the former companion of Doctor Who in his tenth incarnation and for current role as the crown prosecutor in the series Law & Order: UK.
Freema is of Iranian and Ghanaian descent. Her parents divorced when she was still a kid. She lived with her mother, but her father was always there to help, which he still does. She also has a younger brother named Domenic and an older sister named Leila. Freema received a proper Catholic education, having first attended Our Lady’s Convent RC High School, and then a Catholic school in Stamford Hill.
Freema Agyeman was cast in several episodes of various TV series, but by the year 2006 she hardly had any roles available. Thus she was ready to take any role. She regularly attended auditions and castings, but nothing came her way. And then Doctor Who stooped to her – the series creators asked her to participate in auditions for a special Christmas episode. She did not land the job, but as a result she was then invited to play another character in one other episode. She could not even imagine at that time that Billie Piper was leaving the series, and the producers saw her as the replacement for Billie. That’s how the Doctor Who career began for Freeman Agyeman.
Freema now lives in Northern London and continues to welcome new proposals or her developing career.
