Tall, reserved TV actor (and former song-and-dance man) who gave up acting in the 1950's to begin a nearly 30-year career in directing series television. Newland will best be remembered as the host of the 1959 supernatural anthology One Step Beyond, and of its 1978 syndicated revival, The Next Step Beyond.
