Television
Gervais appeared on the box several times from 1998 onwards but his big break came in 2001 as the star and co-writer of the award-winning "mockumentary", The Office. It originally aired on BBC 2 to little fanfare but soon had masses of fans nationwide. The DVD's sold phenomenally well. Having produced a successful second series, the show finished and has since been remade for the US and Germany.
Gervais' next TV series, Extras, whose first 6-episode season aired in 2005, features himself in the starring role again. In this, he plays an aspiring actor who soon realises how difficult it can be to land the big jobs. Guest stars have included such Hollywood heavyweights as Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Stiller.
