played Anthony Vincenzo in Night Stalker
An experienced editor, Vincenzo worked his way up the ranks as a reporter but preferred a management position. However, his career didn't end up going anywhere until he was working in Las Vegas and gave young hotshot reporter Carl Kolchak a case. The resulting graft/embezzlement expose made both of their names. The two worked together on a number of stories until the death of Kolchak's wife.
Vincenzo ended up transferring to Los Angeles where he took a job at the Beacon. Grateful for Carl's help in making his career, Vincenzo hired him on as crime reporter at his new paper and ran interference for when Carl gets into trouble, as he often does.
Vincenzo respects his reporters and is protective of them, no matter how much he might disagree with them. If he has to choose between the authorities and his reporters, he'll go with his reporters every time. As long as you've got a solid story, he'll run it.
However, he still answers to upper management and further, knows realistically how far he can take a story and at what point it's time to drop it. Years in Las Vegas taught him how to play the political game and his experience has served him well negotiating the local Los Angeles government. |
