When Joanna “Queen of Spades” W sits down at a blackjack table, she knows something that none of the other players can comprehend. She knows how to win. Not just by luck, but through mathematics. Joanna grew up in Maryland, excelled at math, and eventually applied her knack for numbers to the fine art of separating casinos from their cash. She ranks among the most feared card counters on the planet.
During the late 1990s Joanna joined a notoriously successful high-stakes blackjack team and took her game to a stratospheric level. In 2004, she entered the tournament circuit, appearing in the debut season of GSN’s World Series of Blackjack. Since then, the Queen of Spades has been slipping in and out of tournaments, winning herself a seat at a final table at the first season of the Ultimate Blackjack Tour, as well as a spot competing in the King of Vegas TV show in 2006.
If you happen to find yourself up against Joanna in a tournament, don’t discount her as a dumb blond. You’ll be vanquished. The Queen has three college degrees (a BS in biology, a BA in Journalism, and a doctorate in chiropractic), is a licensed chiropractor, works as a successful marketing executive, and still manages to squeeze in high-stakes play on the international blackjack circuit. She recently released an electronic pop CD entitled Epiphany (accompanied by musical partner Dee Fortney), will be co-authoring Comp City III (with former World Series of Blackjack commentator, the legendary Max Rubin), and is lending her style and expertise as co-host for this season's World Series of Blackjack.
