In September, 1989, actor/comedian Art Metrano fell from a ladder, breaking his neck in six places. Walking remains difficult despite rehabilitation, so he uses a wheelchair most of the time. He continues to act and has appeared in television shows like The District and Party of Five and movies like How Stella Got Her Groove Back since the accident.

His one-man show The Accidental Comedy raises money for Project Support for Spinal Cord Injury which assists people with spinal injuries in obtaining crutches, wheelchairs and other necessary supplies.
