Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14, 1977 in New York, New York; to parents: Arthur and Rosellen. When Sarah was just 4 years of age, she was discovered by an agent and would soon rise to become a huge star.
At first she only got commercial ads and a few small movie roles, but her major break came in 1992 when she landed the role of Sydney Rutledge on the teen soap opera, Swans Crossing. After the show's sudden cancellation, Sarah got cast on the long-running soap opera All My Children, where she played the conniving character Kendall Hart, the long-lost daughter of character Erica Kane (played by Susan Lucci). In 1995, at the age of 18, she won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Leading Actress in a Drama Series.
When Sarah left All My Children in 1995, it was a while before she got cast in the lead role of Buffy Summers in the new WB TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This role didn't seem like much, since the show was based on the failed 1992 film of the same name, starring Kristy Swanson and because it was on a new unknown network, The WB. The show surprised everybody as it became a massive cult classic and lasted for 7 years. It even earned her a Golden Globe nomination in 2001 for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Sarah Michelle Gellar, soon a household name, started nabbing movie offers left and right as she starred in numerous films such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, Cruel Intentions, The Grudge, Scream 2 and Scooby Doo. On September 1, 2002, Gellar and teen-movie actor Freddie Prinze Jr. were married in Mexico.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Quotes |

One of the greatest gifts my job has given me is that my mother, who gave up her entire life for me, doesn't have to work any more. I'm now in a position to repay her for her devotion.. | My biggest complaint is when it's Send-the-Roses day, somebody's always left out. I always got roses, but I would give them to someone who hadn't gotten any. | One of the greatest gifts my job has given me is that my mother, who gave up her entire life for me, doesn't have to work any more. I'm now in a position to repay her for her devotion.
| Buffy has a life that I can really understand. You want to go to the prom but, at the same time, you have work obligations. Do you have a date, or do you go sit in the cemetery all night?
| My biggest complaint is when it's Send-the-Roses day, somebody's always left out. I always got roses, but I would give them to someone who hadn't gotten any.
| I've always been the nerdy, geekish outsider who still remembers how a lot of my classmates used to torture me. Buffy made me a stronger person. Growing up, I always felt different from other kids and they would always tease me about my work in commercials or TV as a way of putting me down. All the success that the series - Buffy - has enjoyed has erased a lot of self-doubts that I grew up with. I don't feel like the nerd or the loser any more.
| It's important for me to go out on top. I don't want to be part of a show that runs eight years only to have people say of it, that should have ended years ago.(She's talking about BTVS)
