Katy Manning is the daughter of late sports columnist J.L. Manning. At the age of eighteen, she went to America and was offered a 5 year contract with MGM but was persuaded to return to England by her father, where she trained at Webber Douglas Drama School for a year then joined a Wolverhampton repertory company. Katy decided to enter the world of television. Afterwards, she appeared in episodes of
Softly Softly and
Man at the Top before getting the role of companion Josephine “Jo” Grant in programme
Doctor Who, where she stayed for three years.
After leaving the show, Manning worked mainly in theatre and married actor Raynor Burton in 1975 but the marriage only lasted 5 weeks. She later had two twins (Jonathan and Georgina) from partner Dean Harris whom she later married.
In 1978, finding England too ‘stifling’, Katy moved to Australia where she has become a special guest at “Doctor Who” conventions over there. She returned to the UK in 1998 to film video diary
