Actress Muriel Pavlow belongs firmly to the British cinema of the 1950s and often provided a nice counterbalance to the hectic goings-on in many comedies. A dominant stage actress (from age 14) despite her petite frame, she started out with a bit role in a Gracie Fields film. She proved to be a comely heroine in both thrillers and wartime films. Married to actor Derek Farr with whom she appeared in such British-made films as The Code of Scotland Yard (1946) and Doctor at Large (1957), her film career waned in the 60s and she and her husband worked for the most part on stage and in television. Following her husband's death in 1986, she picked up her career again and was seen quite frequently in the late 80s and 90s in more matronly roles. |
