Davina McCall hosts the first episode of Popstars: The Rivals. The judges are introduced for the series and they are Pete Waterman, Geri Halliwell and Louis Walsh. Singers good and bad audition in front of the judges. Davina offers comfort to Danny who is told he has an amazing voice but the wrong image to be put through to the next round. The judges are shocked by Romanian twins, Gabriela and Monica. A huge row breaks out over performer Paul. Louis and Geri insist that he has to be put through to the next round but Pete says no. In the end Paul makes it through. Loads of Spice Girl fans show up to meet their idol including Mark who claims to be Geri's number one fan.
Davina presents the second of the open audition shows. Pete is very critical of many of the performances. Davina lends a shoulder of support to the rejected performers. Kimberly and Nikk impress the judges with their auditions. The judges continue to disagree on who should be put through to the next round. All the judges agree that Sarah should be put through to the next round.
Davina presents the last of the open audition shows. Hazel who is seven months pregnant impresses the judges and makes it through to the next round. Nadine who appeared on the Irish Popstars impresses all the judges. Andrew who is registered blind impresses the judges with his amazing voice. Gabriela and Monica show up again and make all the judges laugh. Louis and Pete continue to clash on who should be put through and Geri meets a face from the past. The final 102 chosen hopefuls will return for a workshop in London hoping to make it through to the live finals.
Davina is in London to meet the 102 hopefuls as they arrive for a workshop to decide who goes through to the next stage of the competition. Stephanie is sent home by the show's producers when they discover she is under age at just thirteen. Brothers Mike and Alan sing a song just for Davina. All of the hopefuls must sing a song of their own choice and are assessed on their dancing ability by choreographer Tonya. Many of them find it difficult to sing and dance at the same time. At the end of the first two days of the workshop the judges have decide which fifty of the performers will progress to the next stage of the workshop. For the remaining disappointed fifty two the competition ends here.
The final fifty singers have just one last chance to impress the judges before another twenty must be eliminated from the series. Pete assesses the boy's vocal and dance abilities whilst Louis does the same with the girls. Davina talks to the hopefuls about how they're feeling at the moment. The judges deliberate over what they have seen. The singers are then called in one by one to a conference room where they learn if they have made it through to the next stage. By the end of the day the final thirty celebrate before heading home. They all now face an anxious wait as the judges will visit each of them at their homes to tell them if they have made it through to the live finals.
The judges visit the final fifteen boys at their homes to tell ten of them that they are through to the live finals. Andrew, Daniel, Chris, Jamie and Peter find out that they have made it through. Justin, Sean and Owen are told the disappointing news that they have not made it through. Anton, Keith, Matt, Mikey and Nikk are told that they have made the final ten. Jacob and Jeremy are told the bad news that the competition ends here for them. The final ten boys prepare to move into a house together.
The judges visit the houses of the fifteen girls to tell them whether they have made it through to the final ten and the live shows. Aimee, Lynsey, Nadine, Javine and Sarah are all told that they have made it through. Kimberley and Polyanna are told that they have not been so lucky and have not made it through. Chloe, Emma, Cheryl, Nicola and Hazel are told that are through. Nicola, Annika and Charlie are told the disappointing news that they have not made it through. The final ten girls prepare to move into a house together.
There's trouble for one of the girls in this special episode when Hazel is discovered to have lied on her application form about her age. She is a few days too old for the show. Geri is chosen to head over to Dublin to tell her that she will be replaced in the series. As Hazel gives birth to a baby son the judges decide on who should replace her in the competition. Louis tells Kimberley is that she is now in the final ten girls.
Davina presents the show live from the ITV1 London Studios. All ten boys sing live to the audience and the three judges. Daniel, Anton and Keith receive the best comments from the judges. After all ten have finished performing the phone lines are opened for the vote. Later on Davina returns with the results and Chris and Andrew learn that they have got the lowest amount of votes. Davina then tells a disappointed Andrew that he is the first male finalist to be voted out of the show.

It is the female finalists turn to sing live for the first time as the three judges and the nine remaining male contestants watch tonight's performances. Emma receives the most criticism from the judges. Nadine manages to impress all the judges. Later in the evening Emma is told she is in the bottom two along with Lynsey but it wasn't Emma the public want out and Lynsey is the first female finalist to be voted off the show.

Davina McCall returns to present the third of the live shows. It's the boys turn to sing live for the second time. By the end of the night two singers will be sent home this week. Daniel and Keith receive good reviews from all the judges. Once all the performers have sung there is a surprise for the judges and Davina when Pete admits that he is too old for the show by a few months meaning he has disqualified himself from remaining in the series. Davina announces that Nikk has received the lowest amount of votes and is now the only singer eliminated because of Pete's revelation.

Davina returns to host this week’s live show. It's the girls turn to perform this week for the second time. Two will be eliminated by the end of the night. The judges tell Emma that she suffered with nerves throughout her performance. Nadine receives praise from all the judges after her performance and Louis tells her that he can see her in the band. After everyone has finished performing the phone lines are opened. Later in the evening Davina returns with this week's results. The two with least votes turn out to be Emma and Chloe and they are both eliminated from the show. Chloe looks composed while Emma looks upset to be eliminated.
The series continues with another live edition and it's the boy's turn to perform again with one more finalist to go by the end of the night. Once all the performers have sung the phone lines were opened for the public vote. Davina returns later in the evening with this weeks results. Matt and Mikey learn that they are in the bottom two after the public vote. Mikey learns that he is eliminated and Matt survives for another week.

It's the girl’s turn to perform again this week. Nadine impresses the judges with her performance. Javine manages to impress the judges too. After everyone has finished performing the phone lines for the vote are opened. Davina returns later in the evening and announces that Nadine, Nicola and Javine have been saved by the public. They are shortly followed by Sarah and Kimberley which leaves Aimee and Cheryl to wait and see who has got the final available place. Davina announces that Aimee is the fourth girl to be voted off the show.
Davina presents the final show for the boys. By the end of the night the line up for the group will be revealed. Everyone performs songs of their own choice. Daniel, Anton and Keith receive the best reviews from the judges. There is an anxious wait whilst the public vote takes place. Davina returns later with the results. Chris is the unlucky singer who finds out he has just missed out.

Davina returns to present the final show for the girls. Five out of the six of them will make it into the band. Sarah who has been suffering with a sore throat all week manages to give a good performance. Javine, Nicola, Kimberly and Nadine all give good performances too. Cheryl is the last to perform and she struggles and Pete predicts that she could be the one to miss out on making the group. Davina returns later in the evening with the results of the public vote. Everyone is shocked when Javine is eliminated leaving our final girl band members Nadine, Cheryl, Sarah, Nicola and Kimberley.
Davina presents this special hour long episode to find out which group has got the Christmas number one slot. Girls Aloud are announced in the number one slot selling almost double the amount of copies of their record than One True Voice have. Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberly, Nicola and Sarah sing their number one hit 'Sounds Of The Underground' live on stage. One True Voice perform live on stage. The Cheeky Girls peform 'Santa Baby' whilst Hazel returns to the show to sing 'When A Child Is Born'. The show's finale is One True Voice and Girls Aloud performing together 'Winter Wonderland'.
