» Random June Thoughts
So, it's June. I like June. It frees me from work responsibilities and June usually means the snow stops here for good. Not always, but usually.

June also means travel for me. Tomorrow morning I leave for Lake Tahoe, Nevada to party it up a little. There will be no photographic proof of this trip, and that's the way I like it. Suffice it to say I will probably have a lampshade on my head for a good part of the trip. I've never been to Lake Tahoe, though I'm no stranger to Nevada. So it's a part of the state I get to see for the first time, plus, there's supposed to be good hiking trails near where I'll be staying and I loves me a good hike.

After 4 days there, it's off to Phoenix, Arizona. This part of the trip is strictly family related, but I always enjoy that too. My parents are pretty okay for retired folks. My mom doesn't knit and my dad doesn't tell me stories about "When I was a kid, gas was a nickel...." They also drink me under the table, and this is not a good thing. But it is what it is.

Also, while I'm there, I have some of my grandmother's things to go through. My grandmother died on Monday. She was my last surviving grandparent, and I have to say it does feel a little weird to be "grandparentless" now. She had been sick for several weeks, so it wasn't a total shock, but it hit me hard just the same. My other grandmother died of Alzheimers a couple years ago, and that was a nightmare - she suffered for YEARS. Which reminds me... I need to get me one of those living will thingies. They can pull the plug on me, I'd be cool with it.

Anyway, my parents cleaned out her condo and they want me to have some of her things. Not stuff of any financial value, really, just knick-knacks and mementos and the like. I don't know if that will be hard for me or not.

So I need new sunglasses. And this isn't that girly "Oh, I need the latest STYLE of sunglasses" thing... I mean, every pair I have is broken in some way. My favorite sunglasses are orange plastic. Yes, I buy kids' sunglasses. They fit my tiny head better. Shut up.

I've been watching Firefly on DVD, and man it's awesome. This isn't a series I probably would have watched if I had just been flipping through the channels and saw a couple minutes of it. I mean, who combines sci-fi with westerns? Strangely, once you get used to it, it works. So now I'm addicted and pissed that there is only a half-season of it. Stupid FOX. I love shows like this that are very character-based.

Well, all-righty... Have a good week, Ragers. Be good.

Firefly is awesome! I need to go back and relive the experience.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother. I found out my grandparents died by Googling my own name. Not the best way to find out.

Have fun on your trip! Bring me back a key chain or a refrigerator magnet!

That's weird, Kelly! I found out that one of my Grandfathers had passed away when another relative Googled him. (He basically shunned the family, so no one even knew where he was.)

Dammit, Firefox, Googled IS a word!

They were my grandparents on my dad's side of the family, so we didn't really talk to them once I stopped going to their house as a kid. Ah, Google. What would we do without you?

I finally just added Googled to my Firefox dictionary.

Just use Google Street View and you can watch your relatives all the time.

Sorry about your Grandmother.

Have fun on your trip!

Always wear sunscreen sunglasses...man I loved that song for about 5 minutes!

Wasn't the movie "Serenity" a continuation of "Firefly"?

I have one Grandparent left and she's the one nobody likes much. My favorite was the one to go first. I still miss her.

My Grandfather had Alzheimers. It does suck. That disease doesn't just take the person but the family too. I'm sure you know what I mean.

And now you get it! I loved that show too. The best episode was the one where Mal sitting there butt-naked in the middle of the desert and he says "Well that went well." And you think... of this is going to be good only to realize he wasn't being sarcastic. Heh.

Yeah. Serenity was a continuation of Firefly. Fox does suck.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother Cindy. Enjoy your trip to Tahoe and Arizona. I went there for the first time when my cousin got married a couple years ago and the place is really nice.

Cindy,
I picked up Firefly based on your blog. I've watched a few episodes and you're right. It is fantastic! I'm now madly in love with Mal. So long Z.Braff!
