» Fairy Forests and Concrete Castles
I promised KingOrin I would do this so here it is. (My camera sucks so please be patient with the sucky-ass pictures.)

For the mood Wind.

There is an interesting little patch of land a block away from where I live. It's a 3 block area of forest in the middle of my town. That in itself wouldn't be that odd but for the interesting little things you can find in that forest.

First off, when you come to one of the many paths into the forest you will see this:

Inviting you to walk down the dirt paths in the forest:

But then you will come across something a little odd...

Are those manhole covers in the middle of a forest?

Walk a little further into the middle of the forest and you will come across this:

The outside is stone and the inside is made of concrete! Across the top, just under the overhang of the roof is a tile mosaic that says: "Those who learn will not destroy the creature's love the flower's joy." ~ Silva Vocat

Continue on just a bit further and you come across this:

A stone and concrete 'Castle'. Actually this used to be a man's home. It was built buy Henry Mercer in 1910. It's now a museum.

Walk just a little further and you will find:

Is that a monastery? No. Actually it's a tile factory all the little smokestacks are for the kilns.

Across town you will find:

But that isn't all... There's also:

A child's fairytale come true.

It's three storys tall and at the top is a tube slide that goes all the way down.

For more information about the Mercer Museum you can go here.

Neat-o. Looks like such an awesome place!

Where I live, you wouldn't see anything like any of those pictures... you wouldn't even see anything remotely like the forest in the second picture. I live in a profoundly boring place.

Wow, the forest is beautiful, as are the buildings. My kid would die to play on that playground.

I fixed the Music link... I have no idea why it did that.

Oh and Tiki... the lower right hand section... that entire quadrant is a giant sand pit!

That park so totally rocks.

Cool pics. That manhole cover may be over an old well. We had 2 old wells in our back yard...covered only with wood planks. I was scared crapless that I would step on that and fall in. It was covered in weeds back then. Now its been filled in and has grass over it.

Your area has some nice architecture though.

Ever since Deliverance I routinely take a manhole cover with me whenever I go into a forest.

Hi Moggy!

Actually the manhole covers are over a pipeline (You can kinda see that in the first picture). Unfortunantely for Doylestown water, the entire area is a little overgrown...

I forgot to ask Michael if he prefers refrains of the original music "Dueling Banjos," or a more contemporary tune such as "I'm In You?"

I love how the forest has decided to take back the little area covered by the manhole! Thanks for posting the pictures, Nishi.

Chris, of course Dueling Banjos. The banjo player in that film was so hot.

You know... only you guys would add up man hole covers in the fairy forest and get Deliverance. You guys have very sick, twisted minds...

It's no wonder I enjoy hanging out here so much.
